UP Chief Minister Mayawati on Monday tabled the controversial bill calling for the division of Uttar Pradesh into four smaller states.
Minutes after the bill was passed with a voice vote, opposition members from the Samajawadi Party, BJP and Congress stormed the well of the House and pressed for an extensive debate on the issue.
However, continued mayhem forced the Speaker to adjourn the House Sine Die.
Earlier, as soon as the House assembled in the morning, Samajwadi Party MLAs approached the Speaker seeking a no-confidence motion against the Mayawati government. SP MLAs entered the Assembly holding banners and posters and shouted slogans, which forced the Speaker to adjourn the House till 12.20 pm.
